Currently my work is an exploration into the delicate and intrinsic relationship between humanity and nature presented in human and plant "mash-ups". My intention is to show the coexistence of the two in a visual presentation that it is a little outside of the box, potentially leading the observer to casual, if not, deep introspection.
This topic is taking many forms in my work, with the most recent being the aesthetic similarities of flower and human anatomy that occur naturally. The purpose of "The Flower Of Life" series is to recognize and praise the beauty and many differences of the vagina, displayed using different species of Orchids. By adding flesh tones to flowers, the line between what is plant and what is human blurs, creating sensual imagery that's exciting and a little uncomfortable.
The vagina is the door to which all human life enters the world. It is figuratively and quite literally the Flower of Life. The use of delicate flowers portraying the vagina is also a message of irony to how it is viewed within society. Vaginas are surprisingly resilient and strong. However, a common misconception is that they are 'delicate flowers', blooming to perfection once in a life-time.
For some of the pieces I have chosen outer space as the background, to represent The Goddess - that is, the female aspect of creation. With my work I am acknowledging and paying tribute to the cosmic womb that has birthed us and everything we know into existence.
